The Fox with Nine Tails 1968 Japanese B0 Poster

This is a Japanese B0 Poster (40.6"  x 57.3") for the 1968 Japanese animated film Kyūbi no Kitsune to Tobimaru (九尾の狐と飛丸), also known as The Fox with Nine Tails or Sesshoseki. Produced by Nihon Dōga and distributed by Daiei, the film is a dark fantasy based on the novel Tamamo-no-Mae by Kidō Okamoto. The plot follows the tragic relationship between a young man and a powerful fox spirit.

Tobimaru: A young man (or in some versions, the young Emperor) who grows up with a girl named Tamamo. He eventually discovers she is cursed and must use a Sacred Halberd to save her. Tamamo (Tamamo-no-Mae): Tobimaru's childhood companion who is revealed to be a nine-tailed fox (kitsune). In the film, she is manipulated by an evil "Devil King" to destroy Japan. Under the Devil's influence, Tamamo seduces powerful lords and causes disasters like droughts. Tobimaru eventually confronts a giant golden statue she is forced to create, leading to her transformation into the legendary Sesshō-seki (Killing Stone).

The movie is notable for its beautiful 2.35:1 widescreen animation, but it was a box office failure upon release due to poor advertising and limited screenings. For many years, it was considered a "lost" film, though a 68-minute version has since been recovered and privately screened.
