Permaflex 1971 Italian Poster
This is an advertising poster (55"x29.5") for Permaflex, a well-known Italian mattress and pillow brand. The illustration features the brand's iconic mascot, a character commonly known as "Brando".
The character, an "omino" (little man) wearing striped pajamas, was designed in the prestigious advertising studio of Armando Testa in Turin. Brando became a famous figure in Italian advertising, particularly through the television show Carosello in the 1960s and 70s. The mascot's striped pajamas are a visual metaphor for the internal spring structure of the mattresses, which was a revolutionary patent for the company when it was founded in the 1950s.
The text "il famoso materasso e guanciale a molle" translates to "the famous spring mattress and pillow".
Designed by the Armando Testa studio, one of Italy's most influential advertising firms, also responsible for other legendary icons like the Lavazza "Carmencita" and the Pirelli "S".
