Ambassador Magma 1966 Japanese B3 Chihoban Poster
This is a beautiful stone litho, Japanese B3 Nakazuri size Poster (20" x 12.5") for the 1966 tokusatsu television series Ambassador Magma (known in the US as The Space Giants). This is also a chihoban poster (regional style) poster printed in much smaller quantities for more rural areas of Japan. These beautiful posters had unique art for their regions making theme very distinct and rare.
Throughout the 52-episode run, Goa the main villain, often unleashes various giant monsters (daikaiju), many of which have dinosaur or Godzilla-like traits, to battle Magma and his family, so while the monster on this poster looks like Godzilla, it is not.
Ambassador Magma (マグマ大使, Maguma Taishi) is the title and protagonist of a manga and tokusatsu TV series created by Osamu Tezuka. The TV series, produced by P Productions, aired on Fuji TV from July 4, 1966, to June 26, 1967, lasting a total of 52 episodes. It is the first color tokusatsu TV series in Japan, beating Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman to the air by six days. The show later aired in the US, dubbed in English by Krantz Films, as The Space Giants.[1] Digital Manga crowdfunded the manga, and it is currently available for digital purchase on their Emanga site.
