Vintage Poster Collection
I've been collecting vintage posters since college when I stumbled upon the Morris Everett Movie Poster shop in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
This led me down a path of falling in love with posters especially those printed in the stone lithography method, an art form long gone that resulted in some of the most beautiful posters ever produced in the early part of the 20th century and the early beginnings of motion pictures.
Coincidentally, Cleveland, Ohio was home to the Morgan Litho Company who printed some of the most beautiful and valuable early film posters in the world including many of the early Universal horror films such as Frankenstein.
In addition, another great stone lithography printer from Cleveland was "Otis Litho". They did print beautiful, early film posters but are more know for their iconic "Carter the Great" magic posters which are amongst the best ever produced.
My collection includes early silent film posters, Golden Age cinema, westerns, which I love, and European film posters for US films that I felt in a lot of cases, had superior poster designs. I also collected many beautifully designed and illustrated advertising posters done in stone litho printing. Some notable posters, a US version of the 1911 Italian silent epic "Homers Odyssey" which is the only known copy to exist and what I consider an early sleeper "Monster" film poster! Also, a rare 1940 English six sheet for the Fritz Lang classic western with Henry Fonda, "The Return of Frank James", another poster which is considered the only known English six sheet to exist.
Included is my vintage Japanese poster collection. It consists of some early landmark anime showcasing the early work of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata the duo who would later found Studio Ghibli. This collection also includes some very rare landmark horror film posters such as an Onibaba billboard, STB posters for American films "Gun Crazy" and "Pinocchio", a billboard size B0 Poster for the first 1965 release of Gamera.
I carefully curated my collection mostly based on the quality of a poster's design and/or illustrations and films I appreciated.
